Webinar examines rising consumer privacy and data security concerns

37% of US broadband households are interested in a service that monitors network traffic and devices on the network for malicious behavior

Webinar examines rising consumer privacy and data security concerns | #TpromoCom #ParksAssociates #Webinar #Privacy #Security | Parks Associates and Bitdefender, with a special speaker from Comcast Cable, will address holistic digital protection for consumer connected products and services during the industry webinar “Protecting Privacy and Data Security in the Smart Home Era,” on June 10 at 11 am CT US (12:00 pm ET). https://bit.ly/3pBHHmo

Research firm Parks Associates finds that 16% of US broadband households report that home network problems have disrupted their work-at-home activities during COVID-19 and that 37% are interested in a service that monitors network traffic and devices on the network for malicious behavior.

The firm finds that the expanding number of connected devices on the network, combined with the growing threat of IoT malware and hijacking, is driving a new model of whole-home protection in cybersecurity. This model of protection monitors all traffic and devices on the network to identify any abnormal activity and to stop bad online actors from accessing the connected home.

“A whole-home protection solution doesn’t require consumers to install, update, or whitelist programs—they can be truly ‘hands off,’ which is key its success,” said Kristen Hanich, Senior Analyst, Parks Associates. “Accordingly, internet service providers who have partnered with cybersecurity vendors to implement this solution report that it has very high take rates, exceeding traditional antivirus offerings, and with a much lower cost per activated customer to boot.”

"In 2013, we identified IoT as a game changer in absolutely all industries and markets. From paradigm shifts in managing the security of devices without support for deploying a local security agent, to privacy concerns when you realize that you have less control on what information is gathered and sent by smart devices, and, last, new standards for vendors and manufacturers. It’s my strong opinion that these three fundamental pillars (security, privacy, and standards) are still in their infant stages," said Alex “Jay” Balan, Security Research Director at Bitdefender. “Bitdefender, in partnership with router manufacturers and internet service providers, ensures that this exciting evolving world is a safe space for consumers and enterprises alike.”

In this webinar, Alex Balan, Security Research Director, Bitdefender; Tony Reinert, Director of Product and Platform Security, Comcast Cable; and Kristen Hanich, Senior Analyst, Parks Associates, examine the risks consumers face in today’s data economy, the tradeoffs between smart home and data security and privacy, and the technology and solutions that help consumers protect themselves.

Smart home communication protocols allow European service providers to expand value-added service strategies

Smart home communication protocols allow European service providers to expand value-added service strategies | #TpromoCom #SmartHome #Parks #Technology | Webinar, sponsored by ULE Alliance, examines impact of communication protocols on smart product adoption and user experience in European market  https://bit.ly/3dMHG9k

Parks Associates is hosting the complimentary webinar “Smart Product Strategies in Europe: Choosing Communication Protocols,” sponsored by ULE Alliance, on 13 April 2021 at 8 am CT US (1:00 pm/13:00 GMT), to highlight key trends in the smart home market, including the impact of communication protocols on the user experience and their important role in expanding adoption, lowering barriers, and creating new value and revenue opportunities for broadband providers.

Growth of connected devices and connectivity in the home creates new opportunities for integration of products, forcing companies to focus more on the user experience and delivering on consumer expectations for connected products. Key factors include wireless range, battery life, energy consumption, reliability, data security, and the setup/installation processes. Parks Associates research finds over the past 12 months, 26% of US broadband households who use Wi-Fi to access the internet report having problems with a slow network. One-fifth report their network frequently stops working, and 15% say they have coverage gaps in their home.

“As service providers across Europe and the world expand their value-added services (VAS) in conjunction with adoption of smart home devices, they need to ensure that support costs stay low while still delivering top-notch consumer experiences,” said Jennifer Kent, VP, Research, Parks Associates. “With the correct protocols in place, providers can deploy VAS for energy, voice, and security, targeted to their unique subscriber base, without risking revenues on support or truckrolls. Being able to communicate the value of these services to consumers is also critical as more than half of UK broadband households without a smart home device and with no plans to buy see no personal benefit to owing a smart home product.”

In this webinar, leading solution providers from across Europe share their decision-making priorities when designing smart home products and services, including design issues, data security requirements, the process for selecting protocols, and the short- and long-term impacts.

Avi Barel, Director, Business Development, ULE Alliance

Industry Pros Talk High Security For Cannabis Industry

Industry Pros Talk High Security For Cannabis Industry | #TpromoCom #AlarmCom #Webinar #Security #Event | Jake Voll, president of SS&Si Dealer Network, and Tyler Kockler with Alarm.com have teamed up to present a panel discussion on leveraging 'Alarm.com for Business' to provide a bundled security, video, and access control solution for the cannabis industry. http://bit.ly/2Nt4fH2

The next significant trend in physical security centers on the protection of cannabis dispensaries throughout the United States. According to a market report, published by Reportlinker, the cannabis market is expected to reach USD $104.9 Billion by 2027, expanding at a CAGR of 15.5 percent over the same time period. Given the monetary value of cannabis products, Security Dealers and Integrators across the nation should find this segment of the security market profitable.

Voll and Kockler have invited two top security integrators who have been extremely successful providing security solutions to the cannabis industry to share their experience and expertise in this lucrative segment of the security market.

"The cannabis industry in New England is rightly regulated, and American Alarm and Communications Inc. has earned an excellent reputation as the experts in security for cannabis grows and dispensaries," says Andy Klein, integrated systems consultant with American Alarm.

Halfway across the country, Alcom Security has successfully tapped into Oklahoma's cannabis industry network to secure numerous facilities throughout the state.

"We're excited to share our expertise with other firms in our industry. While we intend to remain the foremost experts on security for cannabis facilities in Oklahoma, we recognize that the opportunity to support the industry extends well beyond our service area," says Taylor McKinney, operations manager with Alcom.

Both Alcom Security and American Alarm and Communications Inc. leverage the 'Alarm.com for Business' platform in order to win commercial accounts outside of the cannabis industry. Business owners and managers enjoy the convenience of a single platform on which to manage their security, access, and video.

"Tyler and I are happy to collaborate in order to educate dealers on the opportunities found in the cannabis industry," says SS&Si's Jake Voll. "We appreciate the tremendous support from the Alarm.com team and we're excited to see continued and mutual growth as we focus on commercial security solutions for our shared dealer partners."

49% of US broadband households own a smart speaker or smart display

Webinar, sponsored by ULE Alliance, examines growing use of
voice control for home security and automation

Parks Associates research finds 49% of US broadband households own a smart speaker or smart display, driving voice to the forefront of the connected home consumer experience. Parks Associates is hosting the complimentary webinar “Voice Controls and Smart Home: Optimizing Product Design,” sponsored by ULE Alliance, on December 3 at 11 am CT (9 am PT), to evaluate methods for product manufacturers and service providers to evaluate voice control technologies and integrate solutions into their offerings that will deliver high-quality design while ensuring quality of service (QoS).

“Voice control quickly captured consumer interest, driving smart speaker adoption with early use cases focused on quick information requests and music streaming,” said Jennifer Kent, Senior Director, Parks Associates. “However, the user experience across smart speakers varies greatly, so as voice control moves into more critical use cases, such as emergency detection and response, companies will need to ensure QoS with a well-designed solution to maintain consumer confidence.”

In this webinar, speakers will share leading approaches to integrating voice and data communication into smart products and services and the tradeoffs that product manufacturers and service providers make when deciding among these approaches.  The webinar features the following speakers:

  • Avi Barel, Director, Business Development, ULE Alliance
  • Doug Bellenger, Head of Product, DIY, ADT
  • Jean Claude Bennoun, Business Development Manager, Crow Electronic Engineering Ltd
  • Jennifer Kent, Senior Director, Parks Associates
  • Bill Scheffler, VP Business Development, DSP Group

Webinar Topics:

  • Consumer data on smart speaker/display adoption
  • Adoption and usage of multiple speakers per household
  • Voice as an interface for security systems and products
  • Benefits of combining voice and data for product design
  • Key metrics as OEMs and service providers evaluate standards for voice integration
  • Use cases that need reliable QoS
  • Two-way voice use cases

Parks Associates Consumer Data:

  • 74% of smart home device owners also own a smart speaker.
  • 18% of US broadband households report that COVID-19 has increased their interest in products and services that enable “touchless” control of smart home devices using voice control.
